Lurch’ing

Seems an appropriate title, being the label thrown at me this week by somebody I train with at Karate, or more specifically ‘Lurch’.  This was done whilst they sat at a friends house trading insults with me, about my taste in music and choice of car, over MSN.

Normally these kind of things just make me laugh, after all I have been called MUCH worse, mostly in jest (or at least I hope they were said in Jest), but somehow the term stuck in my mind; maybe because whilst in Karate the said person seemed genuinely put out with me – so maybe the label was genuine too?

To be honest, I haven’t been feeling particularly happy about my Karate lately; I feel too leaden, clumsy, slow, awkward (insert your other favourite phrase here).  My sparring on Tuesday was bloody awful too, which is not helped by seeing how good all the other guys are; Gary was able to pick me off with ridiculous ease, Sally was able to critique my form as I breathlessly tried to get some form of strike in, Ed popped me around the head far too often, and watching Libs and Sarah glide around doing kicks to the head just showed how far I am from their skill levels!

Time to practise my “You Rang?” baritone whenever anybody calls.

Your karate is wicked and you should stop thinking otherwise!….karate is hard enough to do and even more difficult if you compare yourself to others!! Just do it for you. (you are after all recovering from very sore ribs, they take time to get better!!) you must be in the ‘conscious incompetence’ bit of the circle which is a good thing as soon you ll be at the ‘conscious competence’ bit…. i think!!! what ever it is though dont stop believing in yourself or your karate.

Pull yourself together yer big freak.

Seriously, I’ve been reading your posts over the last few weeks; you’re in the throws of a mid life crisis. I find myself in a similar position.

I’m in the process of formulating a plan to cope…I will share when complete.

Until then just think, it could be worse. I know several people that look like Fester, Pugsly and Mortitia. If you’re gonna be compared to an Adams Family member Lurch is probably the coolest (except for Hand, but that wouldn’t be easy to pull off (sniggers))

I have had elements of my mid-life crisis already planned mate… it involves buying ridiculously loud (and obviously designed for someone far younger) clothes, a motorbike that is far too fast for me, a young piece of eye-candy to ride pillion with me… and very possibly an ill fitting (and very obviously) wig!

    Sorted :)

…but I am interested in what your plans include!
